5 Simple Ways to Have Fun Cleaning Your Room

#1. Turn Room Cleaning Into Dance and Singing Time

A little peppy music makes cleaning more enjoyable and the chore go by faster.

While I am not much of a singer I find that singing and bopping to “Rockin Robin” makes me actually look forward to dusting.

Plus dancing around while you clean your room has the added benefit of giving you a bit of a workout while you are cleaning.

#2. Play Beat the Clock

One of the chores that I dislike the most is making my bed from scratch when I change the sheets.

So in order to get the chore done quickly and add a bit of fun to the chore I play beat the clock, and try to make the bed faster than I made it the previous time.

When my kids were teens we used to have an actual competition to see who could make their bed the fastest.

The winner normally got some prize, like choosing what they wanted for dinner or getting to choose a board game to play.

#3. Make Cleaning the Room a Team Sport

Any chore is more fun when it is shared with others, so you can make room cleaning a team sport.

Get all the kids involved in room cleaning so that everyone works together in each room.

You can set up races to see how fast toys get picked up and put away, or take turns trying to toss dirty clothing into the laundry basket.

Even toddlers can join the game by assigning them to pick up all of one type of toy such as blocks or cars and see who picks up their selected toys the fastest.

#4. Make Sweeping Fun with Dust Mop Slippers

If you have hardwood or tile floors in the bedroom, you make sweeping the room more fun by using those dust mop slippers and sliding and gliding across the floor.

A fun way of dust mopping a floor is to have a length of rope, let your child hold onto one end and then you pull them across the floor by pulling on the other end of the robe.

The child will slide across the floor having a great time and the floor will get dusted.

#5. Plan Rewards for Completing the Job

While rewarding yourself or your children for cleaning that room won’t make the job more fun it will make the task more pleasant.

When my kids were growing up, major bedroom cleaning was a chore that was done every Saturday morning right after breakfast.

If my kids had their room cleaned by the time I completed breakfast dishes they didn’t have to do any chores the rest of the day, which they loved.
