Tips on How to Remove Pet Odors from Your House

Use Enzymes to Get Rid of Pet Smells

One of the most common ways to get rid of pet odors is by using enzymes that help to break down organic smells like urine. This can be particularly useful in porous areas like fabrics.

Adding this to your laundry can help remove odors from clothing and other fabrics that have been urinated on by animals. This can be a common issue for those with male cats in the house.

This is one of my favorite enzyme cleaners. I really like this pet odor eliminator because it also removes stains, can be used on multiple surfaces and is safe to use around kids and pets.

Vinegar is great for removing Pet odors from Your House

Vinegar is a great odor remover. When cleaning cat pans, hard floors, and washing laundry, you can add vinegar to your normal cleaning routine to help pull out tough smells.

This is effective on urine in non-porous surfaces as well as the general smells that come from your pet’s skin and fur.

Remove Pet Smells from Carpet and Furniture with Baking Soda

Simply sprinkle baking soda on the carpet and furniture, leave overnight to help soak up the odors, and vacuum the following morning.

Baking soda is a great natural deodorant that helps to neutralize all kinds of odors including pet smells. (You may also want to read this article on how to deodorize carpet).

The Shaving Cream Trick

The shaving cream trick has been huge online the past few months for removing urine smell from bathrooms. (You may also want to read this article on the best ways to eliminate bathroom odors).

The shaving cream trick can also be used in other places as well.

This is a great way to remove tough smells from floors, litter boxes, and pet cages. Simply clean the area, coat in shaving cream, and allow to dry before washing off.

The shaving cream will work deep into grooves, pours, and scratches to sanitize and deodorize these areas.

Wash Your Fabrics Regularly

Having a pet that hangs out on your fabrics like the sofa and bed can leave your fabrics with an odd smell.

These fabrics need to be washed often to help keep your whole home from taking on the smell.

Toss blankets, throw pillows, and other washable fabrics in the washer often and spray everything else down with a pet odor removing fabric refresher.

How to Get Rid of Tough Pet Odors at the Source

Strong urine smells from your pet’s litter can be a sign of a health-related issue that can often be treated.

Many animals simply need improvement in their diet or more fluids to help reduce the strong smell of their urine. The best place to start is to talk to your veterinarian to have them run a urine sample.

You can reduce the distinct smell that dogs leave around your home with good grooming practices.

If your dog doesn’t like to get baths at home, you may have to pay for a dog groomer to help. The dog groomer will help deal with the odor from your dog’s skin that gets trapped within your dog’s fur coat and rubs off on the fabrics in your home.

Small caged animals should get fresh bedding often to prevent the bedding from taking on unpleasant smells and putting them off into your home.

Placing baking soda near the cage can help. However, avoid putting the baking soda inside the cage as it can cause respiratory distress for small animals.

Great tips! I have also heard peroxide will remove odor at the source? I have used it while puppy training and it seems to work but puppy ore is much diff than adult puppers. I was specifically looking to see if anyone had tips on what to wash/bathe with? I know there are many dog shampoos out there but I was hoping there was a secret trick I could learn to make sure the fresh/clean scent stays! THANKS SO MUCH! I will be using many of these great tips!
